Background removal workflow

Transparent PNG Maker

Upload a photo or illustration, remove its background and download the resulting PNG. Use the preview to distinguish real transparency from a picture of a checkerboard.

One JPEG, PNG or WebP · under 10 MB · PNG output

Before you upload

  • Choose one JPEG, PNG or WebP under 10 MB with a subject you can distinguish from its background.
  • Keep an already-transparent original when its edges are good; a new removal can discard details you wanted.
  • Upload the actual image file. Renaming a JPEG to .png or taking a screenshot does not create transparency.

The floral sample has a decoded, verified PNG alpha channel. A pale edge remains visible on dark backgrounds: real transparency does not guarantee a perfect mask. The preview background is not baked into the file.

A PNG extension alone does not mean transparency

PNG can store an alpha channel describing which pixels are opaque, partly transparent or fully transparent. A PNG can also be completely opaque. Converting a JPEG to PNG changes the container, but does not by itself tell the software which background pixels to remove.

FeyNoBg estimates the subject mask from your uploaded image. The result is returned as PNG so the removed areas can remain transparent. That makes the file useful as a layer in another design; it does not create new image detail, a vector outline or a layered Photoshop document.

Check the file rather than trusting the checkerboard

The checkerboard on this page is drawn behind the image for preview. It is not part of the sample PNG. Change the example background from checks to light or dark: removed areas reveal the new background, while remaining parts of the illustration stay visible. This is also a practical way to spot pale fringes that disappear on only one background color.

After downloading your result, import that PNG into an editor and place a colored layer beneath it. If a fixed rectangle or fixed checkerboard still surrounds the subject, those pixels are part of the image. A screenshot of this page will include the preview background, so use the download control rather than capturing the screen.

Keep the transparent master separate from final layouts

PNG is appropriate when you need transparency for a reusable cutout. JPEG is often used for a finished flattened layout, but it cannot retain the PNG’s alpha channel. When you export a JPEG, the transparent areas must be filled with a background color. Keep the transparent PNG master so you can create a different layout later.

Inspect the downloaded dimensions before printing or enlarging the image. This workflow removes a background; it is not an upscaler and does not add pixels on demand. Fine hair, pale artwork, translucent objects and intricate chain links can need manual mask work even when the file has valid transparency. Use the subject guides below to check the details that matter to your image.

Check before you use the result

  • Removed areas show both a light and a dark background.
  • The file downloads as PNG rather than a screenshot or JPEG.
  • Subject details remain visible after import into your editor.
  • The output dimensions meet the needs of the final layout.

Questions about this workflow

Why does a transparent image look white in another app?

Some viewers display transparent pixels over white. Place a colored layer behind the PNG to see whether those pixels are transparent or actually white.

Can this make a transparent logo?

You can try an existing logo image, but inspect small lettering and enclosed spaces. This page does not vectorize, redraw or grant rights to a logo.

Does the preview checkerboard get downloaded?

No. The checkerboard is a page background behind the sample or result. Download the PNG file; a screenshot would capture the checkerboard.
